Can Improving Your Diet Improve Your Oral Health?
At Infinity Dental Wellness, we practice biological dentistry, also commonly referred to as holistic dentistry. We have a large focus on your oral health and how your overall health can impact and cause problems with your teeth and mouth. For example, you know that your diet and what you eat and drink each day make a difference in your overall health. If your diet is high in sugar and fat, it can lead to weight gain as well as problems with your blood pressure and heart, just to name a few. But did you know that diet can also have a significant impact on your oral health too? Patients who drink mostly sugary beverages, snack throughout the day, and have a diet high in sugar are more likely to experience dental issues such as decay and gum disease. So, can improving your diet improve your oral health? Absolutely!
Choose Better Beverages
Coffee and soft drinks are delicious treats on occasion, but when you drink them all day, you create an overabundance of bacteria in your mouth that is impossible to remove completely, which leads to recurring decay and, eventually, gum disease. Make a better choice and drink water throughout the day instead. Not only is water excellent for your body, but it can also help rid your mouth of bacteria after eating.
Eat a Variety of Foods From the Main Food Groups
We recommend eating three balanced meals that include foods from all the main food groups: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and dairy. The more balanced your meals, the less likely you are to snack between meals. Snacking throughout the day adds extra bacteria to your mouth, as mentioned above.
