Dental Care Through The Stages Of Pregnancy
Are you or a loved one planning to start a family, are currently pregnant, or a new mom? At Infinity Dental Wellness, we want to help you with your oral health during each important stage in your life. You may be surprised to learn that not only does your body change during pregnancy, but your mouth can experience changes as well. We don’t want you to end up with dental decay and other issues along with your bundle of joy, so we want to explain how your dental health can be affected during pregnancy and give you some helpful tips to keep your teeth in the best possible shape. Even if you aren’t expecting, please forward this to someone you know who is or is planning to get pregnant.
Dental Care Before Pregnancy
While not everyone plans their pregnancy beforehand, if you are actively trying to get pregnant or have plans in the near future, we encourage you to schedule a hygiene examination and cleaning before becoming pregnant. We can complete a thorough inspection of your mouth and look for signs of decay or problem areas that may develop decay in the near future. We recommend scheduling any needed treatment before pregnancy, as there are certain treatments we prefer not to complete during pregnancy.
Dental Care During Pregnancy
It is important to monitor your oral health during pregnancy. With all the hormonal changes, pregnant women have a higher chance of developing gum disease. If you are one of the unfortunate women who suffer from morning sickness and frequent vomiting, be sure to brush your teeth as often as possible after an episode. Frequent vomiting can cause the tooth enamel to show signs of premature wear.
Dental Care Following Pregnancy
We know that dealing with a newborn can be overwhelming, but it is important to continue to care for your oral health. Be sure to brush and floss your teeth daily and continue to keep up with your oral hygiene examinations.
If you are pregnant or thinking of adding to your family in the near future, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment for a hygiene examination. We look forward to seeing you in our office located in Fort Lee, NJ soon.
