We recognize that some patients feel uncomfortable and even fearful when visiting the dentist. This can lead them down the path of poor dental health. In some cases, patients are so fearful that they avoid critical dental treatments that would save a tooth from decay and damage. The good news is that we have a solution to help those patients have a more comfortable and relaxing dental experience so that they can get the dental care they deserve. Read on to learn more about the options available for dental phobia.

If you haven’t heard of sedation dentistry before, it’s a procedure that involves administering sedative medication to patients so that they are completely relaxed during their dental treatment. Dr. Joel Singer is a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and has completed advanced training in providing dental sedation to his patients.

We have three options for sedation depending on your anxiety level and what treatment you are undergoing. These methods are all safe and you will be carefully monitored by our team while under sedation. The options available are:

  • Oral sedation — Sedation medication is administered in pill form and taken by the patient prior to coming to our office for your treatment. You will be awake during the procedure but you will not feel pain or remember the treatment. It allows you to experience complete relaxation so the dental team can perform your dental treatment
  • Nitrous oxide — Also known as laughing gas, this form of sedation is a gas inhaled through a nose mask during treatment. It will help you feel calm and relaxed throughout your appointment.
  • Intravenous sedation — Sedation medication is administered intravenously for those patients who need maximum sedation for their treatment. Also known as “twilight” sedation, the patient remains awake but is completely relaxed.

We care about the comfort of all our patients and want you to know that it’s perfectly natural to have some level of anxiety about dental treatments. Please let us know if you have these types of feelings so we can help make your experience more comfortable.
