Stress-Free Zone

We understand that a visit to the dentist isn’t on your top ten list of favorite things to do, but for some people, just the thought of a routine dental checkup can cause extreme anxiety and panic. They may even avoid going to the dentist all together, which puts their oral health in jeopardy. The good news is that sedation dentistry allows us to provide a comfortable and relaxing experience for these patients so that we can care for their dental needs.

If you experience dental anxiety, you are not alone. Up to 20% of Americans avoid going to the dentist due to fear, even though they know that fear is irrational. That’s why we offer three different options for sedation so that you can go through necessary dental treatments relaxed and stress-free.

IV Sedation

Also known as conscious sedation, IV sedation does not put you into a complete sleep, but it does make you less aware during your dental procedure. The benefit of this type of sedation is that you can respond to the dentist’s questions or requests but you will be pain-free and won’t remember the treatment. As the name implies, the sedation medication is administered through intravenously, allowing it to work quickly. It also allows the doctor to adjust the dose as needed.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a gas that is inhaled through a mask over your nose and quickly allows you to relax during your dental treatment. It does cause you to feel good, which is why it is also known as “laughing gas.” This method of sedation is safe, effective and wears off quickly. Once the mask comes off, the sedation soon wears off.

Oral Sedation

Unlike the other two forms of sedation, oral sedation is self-administered. This method is prescribed to the patient in pill form and taken at home prior to coming into the office for a procedure. It helps you keep calm and arrive for your treatment already relaxed. You will be awake during the procedure but will have no memory of it.
