Who Is A Candidate For Dental Implants?
There is no excitement like that of a child who has lost their tooth for the first time. That excitement continues with each baby tooth that falls out. Unfortunately, as adults we don’t share that same excitement when there is a loss of a tooth. There can be a number of reasons why a patient may need to lose a tooth as an adult. Our goal is to help our patients through the process and help them choose a tooth replacement option as soon as possible. Our first treatment recommendation is always a dental implant.
What is a Dental Implant?
Dental implants have grown in popularity over the years because the treatment is durable and long-lasting. If cared for properly, an implant has the potential to last for the rest of your life. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically implanted into the jawbone, mimicking the function of a natural tooth root. Over time, this prosthesis fuses with the bone to create a permanent solution.
Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Many years ago, when dental implants originated, there were a large number of patients who weren’t eligible for treatment for various reasons. With advancements in the treatment method as well as dental technology, more patients than ever before are eligible for this life-changing dental treatment. The state of your overall and oral health is the most important factor when determining eligibility. During an appointment in our office, we will examine your oral health, inspecting the surrounding teeth as well as the health of your gums and jawbone. Patients with certain medical conditions may not be eligible for treatment. It is also important that candidates be non-smokers to ensure the health of the gums after treatment.
